Hey, hey, hey! Today I want to talk about strategies. Strategies are the basis of everything we do in life. Everything we create, or everything we think we’re going to achieve are all based on strategies. Things that we don’t do is still based on a strategy.
And what do I mean by this?
What is a strategy
Well, our brain basically works in a way that every action we take is built up of a number of steps. Something triggers that action and then we’ll go through a series of steps to get to the result that we want. Now, this can be in anything that we do.
So for instance, we get up and we run a brush your teeth, strategy. We will go through a series of steps based on the trigger of getting up. It might be something else for you, but for me, when I get up, first thing I do is a trigger, I need to brush my teeth. So I then go through a series of steps to brush my teeth, from going into the bathroom, to grabbing the toothbrush, putting toothpaste on the toothbrush, and then there’s a strategy around the steps I take to brush every single tooth. Now, so that’s a very simple method or version of a strategy, but everything we do is a strategy.

Everything is a strategy
So why is this important to know that everything is a strategy?
Well, it’s quite simple really. Because one of the things I see all the time with my clients is that we will work on setting some goals for things they want to achieve in their life and their business.
To do that, we go for a strategy. We work out okay what is it that we want that we haven’t got now? And we will create some ideas around that. Now from there, we have to create a plan. Now the plan is okay, “what are the steps we’re going to take to achieve that goal”, that’s a strategy. Strategies are everything however…
We need to take action
But the one thing that seems to be missing most of the time is the action. So we can make the plan, we can have the goals, but unless we actually take action and implement that strategy, we’re not going to get the results we want. Now, part of that is breaking down those goals into small steps. Because from a mind perspective, from our brain, we can only actually take so much information.
How we process information
Our brain is hit with about 2 million bytes of information every second. Now, the brain can’t handle that many bits of information at a time. So, our brain can only handle about 132 bits, which is about seven chunks of information plus or minus 2 chunks. And so for instance, I’m standing here talking to you through my camera.
Now, if I start talking about okay, what it is that I’m feeling inside, that’s a chunk. If I start thinking about, okay, what the way my shirt feels on my body, that’s a chunk of information. It’s a great shirt, isn’t it?
So, every part of what we do is, is all taking up chunks of information.
Now part of our brain or a part in our brain, the reticular activating system, helps us to manage those chunks so that we don’t get overwhelmed. So can you can imagine that if everything sort of come in at once, and we just put on all these different things, and we were sensing everything, and we’re just get totally overloaded, we would explode. We go boom. No more. Full of glitter.
But you can just skip and understand what I’m saying here is that we can’t cope with everything at once. And so we’ve filter the information that’s coming in. And the reticular activating system, or the RAS, does this through deleting, distorting, or generalizing the information.
Have focus in your strategy
The easiest way to understand this is around focus. So for instance, and the one that I use a lot is that, imagine that we are looking to buy a new car, we’ve done the research and we’ve decide that we want to buy a blue Mustang. Now all of a sudden, because we’re focusing on a blue Mustang, we start to see blue Mustangs everywhere. Now, it’s not that they weren’t there before. But our brain just didn’t notice that. It didn’t take that as being useful information. So it distorted or deleted that information from our bank, the memory bank, because we only worry, we only focus on what we want. This is no different.
So when we’re thinking about goal setting and taking action those goals, we’re either going to take action or we’re not.
Now, if we’re not taking action, that’s still a strategy. The strategy is, “I’m not going to take action”. And there’s steps involved with that. How we need to think about these things is that we’ve all got the same opportunities.
Now, I can have success in my business the same as you can have success in yours. All it is a strategy. And we know that we can have success because other people have success. So if we follow the same success that they’ve had, we’re going to get the same results, we cannot not have the same results. Think about it.
Make steps to get that success story
So everything we do, is made up a series of steps. So, for instance, Richard Branson, everything he does is a series of steps. Now the success he’s had, he’s got through following those steps. Now, he will have got different success or different results if he followed different steps.
So you can only have the results that you have from the steps you took. So that’s all past based. But go for now and for the future, the results we get are based on the decisions we make now and the decisions and the steps that we take now.
So, part of this, I want you to start thinking about, “okay, what is it, I can do now to give me the results that I want if I take the necessary steps to who’s going to move me closer to my goals, then I’m going to achieve those goals. And I’m going to have the success that I want.”
The steps you take will give you the lifestyle you want
This is important because it will give you the lifestyle you want. Which means that you can have that time spent with your family. You can have that extra car that you want. You can have that extra holiday that you want. It’s all about how we achieve that. And that can give us that love and that passion, and help us to be all that we can be. And we can do that now, in the moment.
Everyone can do this. It’s not something that’s certainly there for certain people. We could all have the success that we want. It’s just the strategy that we have to realize that, first of all, there is a strategy, and secondly, that if we follow that strategy, follow the steps that other people have done, model them to get the results that we want based on what they’ve already got, then we’re going to get it.
It’s not about the number of your goals, it’s about taking those steps
So, what I see that all the time is that people will have an a strategy of, “no I’m not going to do that,” it’s denial, or, “I’m going to basically, because you want me to do I’m not going to do it.” And I see this a lot with top 5s.
So with my clients, we work on these 5 things that we can do every week that’s going to move us closer to our 90 day goals. It’s going to move us closer to widely informing us of our 12 month goals. Which ultimately is going to give us that lifestyle that we’re after.
Now, whether it’s a top 5, top 3, top 1, top 20, I don’t care, no issue. It’s not about the number. It’s about the step, it’s about taking action, to move us closer to those goals.
We can’t achieve those goals if we don’t take action
We can plan as much as we want, we can we can create those goals, we can have them written up on the board. But if we actually don’t do anything to move as close to them. If you don’t take the strategies and the steps to move us closer to those goals, to do the things that’s gonna make us one step at a time, move and get the results we want, we’re not going to achieve it.
So if you’re one of those people that is sitting on the fence, is saying that, basically, “because you tell me do it, I’m not going to do it”, then you’re never going to get the results you want. And to be honest, I don’t want clients like that.
So, if you’re in that mindset at the moment that you don’t want to do the things that are going to get you the results that you want, then just keep doing what you’ve always done. Because you’re always going to get what you’ve always got, you’re not going to make any changes. You’re just gonna have to keep doing the same things over again, making the same mistakes.
Follow your steps of your strategy
If you want to get the results that I’ve got, if you want to get the results that other clients of mine have got, then you need to do what needs to be done to get the results.
You need to take action. You need to follow the steps of your strategy to get the goals that you want.
Whether it’s your 90 day goals, your wildly important goals, whether it’s to have that million dollar business. Whether it’s to have that lifestyle so that you can spend time with your children to see them grow up, to go and pick them up from school at the end of the day and have going play with them and watch them do the sports. Strategies are everything and…
You can’t be successful if you keep following the same lazy strategy
You can’t do that if you keep running the same strategies. And your strategy is, “I’m just gonna keep working harder and harder and spending long hours on the tools. Spending all my nights doing paperwork, and not spending any time with family.”
If that’s your strategy? Rock on. if you’re enjoying that? That’s great. But if you don’t want that, if you want to get away from that strategy, and create a new strategy around success, then you need to change what you’re doing. And the only way you can change what you’re doing is follow a different strategy.
Do something that is going to move you closer to your goals
So hopefully guys, that’s my rant for a Sunday morning. Now, when, for my guys, if you get my email later today, which is my top 5, what I’m committed to do. Now, again, if you don’t like top 5s, do top 3s, do top 1, I don’t care but strategies are everything.
You just have to do something that is going to move you closer to your goals.
So when you get that email today with my top 5s, I don’t want you to just ignore it and just going to throw it in to the bin and just continue doing what you’re doing. I want you to take action, some action.
I don’t care what action is, whether even the strategy of, “Okay, I’m going to square up, Paul.” But you need to open that email, you need to have a look at what my top 5s were, or this week was top 4s because of activities that I was doing. What my top 5s are for next week. And that I’m keeping myself accountable to you that I’m doing my things that are going to get me closer to my goals.
