What types of jobs to accept…
As business owners, tradies, human beings in general, we like to help people. We like to make people happy. Knowing what types of jobs to accept is a common hurdle.
As such, typically this can affect us in our business and this is the reason why.
As we get new customers come to us, or potential customers come to us asking for work, especially during this really busy time, we want to say yes to help them out.
One because we want more work, but also we don’t want to let people down.
So with that being said, if we treat every potential job and every potential customer the same, then we could be doing a disservice to our existing customers. We could also be focusing on the wrong type of work.
Not Every Job is the Same
Now what do I mean by that?
Not every job is:
- The same
- Has the same value
- Is going to give us the same results
So we want to be focusing on and have a strategy around how we decide what types of jobs to take on and what types of jobs to say no to.
If jobs that are coming in aren’t fitting with your strategy and your goals for growth for the future, then it’s not always a good thing to say yes to. Especially if it’s at the detriment to either customers that you’ve got long term relationships. That lifetime value of that customer, or potentially reducing to what we could be working on with when that ideal customer does come along, but we don’t have time to look after them.
Think About Your Strategy Before You Say Yes To A Job
When you’re thinking about saying yes to a job or saying yes to a potential client, first of all think about:
- Is this part of my strategy?
- Are they my ideal customer?
- Is this the type of jobs that we want to be working on?
- is this going to give us the results we want in the future?
Hope you have a great day, look forward to talking to you and seeing you on the next video.
